Programs to Display the Openmtbmap
Bsides being shown on (nearly) all Garmin GPS devices – most People will use Garmin Basecamp (v3 or later) or Garmin Mapsource to show the maps on their Desktop and plan tours/trips.
For anyone on the good side of earth Openmtbmap.org maps are also correctly shown in Qlandkarte_GT – QLandkarte_GT is compatible with all big OS (Linux, MacOSx and well Windows too). Linux users can alternatively install Mapsource 6.13.6 in WINE.
Mapsource – I wouldn't use any version but 6.16.3. Mapsource versions 6.14 to 6.15.6 are complete junk, if you use it, please update. Also note that Mapsource versions prior to 6.16.1 do not show all ways and pathes so they are not really usable. Mac OSx users please use Qlandkarte GT or convert maps and use Basecamp 3 or Roadtrip: convert-maps-for-mac-os-x-roadtrip/

Install Mapsource: tutorials/install-mapsource/
Install the Openmtbmap in Mapsource: tutorials/install/ explains the options of the installer.
Send Maps to GPS with Mapsource/Basecmap: tutorials/send-maps-to-your-gps/mapsource/ I recommend to allways send maps to an external data card and not internal memory. (this way if something goes wrong, or maps would be damaged you run less danger of wrecking your GPS).
Alternative: Use create_gmapsupp.img.bat and place the newly created gmapsupp.img into /garmin folder on your GPS. Address search cannot be included this way. If you use create_gmapsupp.img_with_mkgmap address search will be enabled, but you need depending on the size of the map quite a lot of free RAM.

Mapsource Error / debug Mapsource: There is a problem with the MapSource registry. Please re-install Mapsoures and start again Solve with Mapsource Fix Or with Mapset Toolkit

Current Issues
The address search is not working consistently. Most problems are due to inconsistent data structures in OSM address data.
- General: Autorouting over longer distances on GPS works only with Via Points. Solve with WinGDB: plan-routes-efficiently
- Autorouting needs attributes like tracktype, bicycle routes, mtb:scale, sac_scale, mtb routes and others to work well. So keep care to enter those details into OSM. (not all are needed, but enough for me to guesstimate wheter a street is cyclefriendly/mtbriendly or not).
- Non Connected ways and overlapping ways without node, this is the main problem and a problem of the underlaying map data – please check here: http://keepright.ipax.at/report_map.php Only check/enable: "almost Junctions" , "intersections without junctions" as well as "overlapping ways". This helps you to quickly spot the erros. You can then follow the link to Potlatch (or also JOSM is integrated for JOSM users) and quickly correct mistakes! Watch out not to connect ways that are not connected in reality (i.e. a way crosses another on a brigde, here no connecting node is the right solution). – If you use Windows 2000 you may need to install the "reg" command : Reg cmd at Microsoft. Batches are incompatible to earlier Windows versions. – Note sometimes sea is missing. This is not an issue, but currently not differently possible. It is usually a problem in OSM data.
Notice on Updating Maps
If you want to be notified by email on map updates please go to the frontpage and enter your email address in the subscribe field of the left sidebar. You only get an e-mail when there are changes besides a simple map data update. Map updates are usually every Thursday night / Friday morning. You can look at the server to see the date of map upload. To update the maps, simply run a newer .exe Download.
Overlapping maps in border regions
While you can join maps of different countries, routing over the boundary is a bit shaky, and you will have one map overlaying the other with white background. As long as mkgmap cannot create randomly shaped overview maps (currently only rectangles), this problem is not solvable. There is however the possibility to download a Europe map, which will be updated every 4-6 weeks. Get Europe Map here (donation needed): http://openmtbmap.org/support/europe-map/
Velomap and Openmtbmap of the same Country — Problems
If you install an openmtbmap and a VeloMap of the same country with both times integrated contourlines, you should only send the contourlines once (meaning with either Openmtmbap or Velomap of the country).. Else you GPS might not show the maps, or worse not even start until maps are deleted. There are several possibilities.
a) Install both maps without contourlines and contourlines separately (install separate contourlines only map option in installer). You have not trouble.
b) Use the create_gmapsupp… .bat batchfiles and for one map select no contourlines.
c) be careful here: Select the map as usual in Basecamp/Mapsource or Qlandkarte GT, then go to the list of the selected tiles ready to be sent to the GPS, scroll down to the bottom, and unselect the contourlines only tiles from the list.

last map update: please look at recent posts for changes – usually maps are updated at least every 7 days with updates on Thursday/Friday You can unpack the .exe with 7-zip , ( Linux users use p7zip-full –> see here for more details), MacOSx Users can use "Unarchiver"

Contourlines Premium Downloads
Most countries, especially the popular ones, have the contourlines already integrated. However for several countries the contourlines are rather large (rule of thumb if contourlines have more data than the maps) and I integrate them, but you need to download them separately (once). These contourline maps are available for donators exclusively to Openmtbmap/Velomap. To use them simply activate one of the contourlines options inside the installer, and then copy in // unextract the contourline files into the installation folder (usually "c:/garmin/openmtbmap/country" ). Downloads are clickable if logged in. To unextract I recommend to use 7-zip.

Change Layout and Contrast of the maps
On installation you can choose the layout of the maps. Traditional layout is for Qlandkarte GT, Mapsource and Basecamp and offers a good layout and design for big screens. On the GPS thin, classic and wide or easy or hiking offer high contrast for best orientation while riding your bike or hiking.
In order to change the layout – simply run openmtbmap_country_change_layout.exe (this is also linked in your Start –> Programs Folder for each map). This also enables you to quickly change the layout before sending maps to your GPS device, and then quickly change it back for better planning on your desktop.
You can adapt the .TYP-files, which are responsible for the layout – and therefore the map colours, to your liking by using http://www.maptk.dnsalias.com/. Do not use http://ati.land.cz/gps/typdecomp/editor.cgi because it is not fully compatible and may corrupt the .TYP-file.

hallo … hab mir gestern die MTB und Velo US west runtergeladen, leider sind meine downloads wegen diverser netzwerkfehler auf meiner seite mehrfach fehlgeschlagen , haben aber letzendlich funktioniert
könnte man vllt. den download counter auf die tatsächliche zahl von 2 vollständig durchgeführten reseten ? wäre super … danke
Der Counter zählt nicht pro Download – sondern pro File. Egal wie häufig du das runterlädst. So sollte es zumindest sein…
In der Version vom 10.01.2012 fehlen mal wieder div. Gewässer – ist aber nicht so schlimm wenn man eine Schwimmweste dabeihat

bei mtbalps und mtbgermany bekomme ich auch “Installer integrity check has failed…. incompmlete download..”. Die runtergeladenen Files haben dieselbe Größe wie auf dem server, nur der Zeitstempel ist falsch (Downloadzeitpunkt).
Die Akündigung der Integration der contourlines finde ich übrigens super.

Habe eben Frankreich und die Schweiz heruntergeladen und bin schwer begeistert, weil ich mir die teuren Garmin Topo Karten für meinen Jakobsweg MTB – Trip sparen kann. Die Karten funktionieren auf dem Oregon hervorragend, nur die Höhenlinien Integration ist mir zu haarig. Vielen, vielen Dank!

Der Installer bricht mit einer Fehlermeldung ab.
Dann lade die karte nochmal runter. habs grad selber probiert – geht problemlos. Bei dir ist wohl beim download ein Fehler passiert.

Bei der aktuellen mtbfrance.exe bekomme ich eine Fehlermeldung beim Installieren: “Installer integrity check has failed. …”, Polen, Deutschland und Ungarn funktionieren bestens.
hmm – evtl ist was kaputt. Ich render heute nacht eh neue Karten…..

having paid i was hoping to have the option to download in other formats! why do use self-extracting zips? im on an android tablet they are no good to me, or mac, unix or linux users. also most library computers don’t allow exes! if you can’t provide any other format i’ll take my money back.
Well I can refund you the money if you want to. But I wrote nowhere that there would be other formats. I use self extracting zips because for 90% of the users it’s the easiest solution. And due to copyrights I will not offer readymade gmapsupp.img files, cause I’m unsure about mixed content in it (even though essentially it is also only a container).
Also offering readymade gmapsupp.img would mean no address search possible, double bandwith, and actually larger downloads (gmapsupp.img files don’t compress well).
So if you want to have you money back (which you have not claim to, but I will give it back anyhow) send me an email.
Anyway even if they are self extracting files you can extract them as normal compressed files. I work with linux and I always do like that. Personally I use 7z buy I suppose you can use other compressor.

Ich fände es ganz praktisch, wenn es eine Karte für die Pyrenäen gäbe. Ich habe keine Ahnung, ob das viel Arbeit wäre, wahrscheinlich ist auch das allgemeine Interesse nicht entsprechend gross… Was meinst Du?
Geht nicht, solange Geofabrik da kein Extrakt für anbietet. Prinzipiell würde ich es sonst, weil nach den Alpen wichtigste mehrstaatliche Bergregion, schon machen. Alternativ halt die Europakarte benutzen (kann ich halt nur 1x Monat updaten)

After Edge 800 software update from 2.2 to 2.4 many map features(rivers,canals(but not rivers with riverbanks), river direction arrows, parking aisles) are missing on device but showing on Base camp. Before update was showing fine.

Whilst BaseCamp may be able to show all of the details, this may not necessarily be what is transferred, and even if it was working before, as we have no information on these maps and are not associated with the way in which these are made or transferred in any way we cannot offer any support for these, as it is likely something in the way in which these are constructed which the unit is unable to read. As the information in question appears to be POI files you may need to install additional POIS separately by using the POI loader

Yes hard reset your edge. That is a pretty well known problem after firmware update and happens with other maps (e.g. Topo Germany 2010) too.

erstmal danke für Deine tolle Arbeit. Es macht auch Spaß, mitanzusehen, wie die OSM-Karten jede Woche vollständiger und besser werden.
Mit der letzten Version (13.10.2011) ist folgendes Problem aufgetreten:
Ich wohne westlich von Augsburg. Diese Gegend heißt u. a. Naturpark Westliche Wälder.
Die Grenzen dieser Gegend hat scheinbar erst vor kurzem jemand eingezeichnet.
Jetzt ist das Problem, daß die ganze Gegend westlich von Augsburg mit einem
Kleine-Männchen-Symbol zugepflastert ist.
Kannst Du da bitte mal einen Blick draufwerfen.
Das Problem besteht auf dem Rechner mit Mapsource 6.13.7 wie auch auf den auf meinen Garmin Oregon übertragenen Karten.

Da hat jemand inkorrekt die ganze Gegend als sport=* getagged. IMHO ein Taggingfehler. Es scheint aber schon wieder gelöscht zu sein, sprich beim nächsten Update sollte es wieder okay sein.

bei basecamp fehlen in der openmtb-bw Karte auch mit dem aktuellen update immer noch ein paar Kacheln, allerdings nur bei bestimmten Vergrößerungen. Bei Mapsource und auf dem Oregon scheint jetzt alles ok zu sein. Irgendeine Idee?

Ich suche schon nach dem Fehler. Der Fehler ist soweit ich sehen kann in mkgmap, weil es ein paar Karten betrifft.
Du meinst dann auf deiner Seite? Ich hatte diese Karte mit der neuesten mkgmap-r2042 erstellt (create_mapsource_installationfiles_with_mkgmap.bat) und es eben auch noch mal mit mkgmap-r2038 und mkgmap-r1995 probiert: Kein Unterschied.
Ja. Irgendwas beim splitting von mkgmap hat sich geändert.
So, die aktuelle Karte sieht wieder gut aus. Besten Dank, Felix!
Die mtbgermany.exe weist auch eine signifikant kleinere Größe auf als die Wochen zuvor. Ich dachte schon jemand hätte die OSM ausgemistet *lach*

ich arbeite schon lange mit deinen tollen Karten auf Basecamp (aktuell 3.2.2)oder MapSource (aktuell 6.16.3)
Beim heutigen Download der Karten openmtbmap – Alps, openmtbmap – Czech Republic und openmtbmap – bayern.exe werden leider einige Kacheln nicht angezeigt.
Auch nach erneutem Download und Installation ändert sich nichts.
Sowohl in BaseCamp wie auch in MapSource fehlen bestimmte Bereiche.
Da ich bisher immer genau so vorgegangen bin und keinerlei Probleme auftraten, vermute ich, dass es am aktuellen Update liegen könnte.
Ich benutze übrigens Windows 7 mit 64bit.

kann es sein das sich in der neuen Velo+MTBmap vom 8.7 ein Fehler eingeschlichen hat?
Beide Karten lassen sich werder mit MS noch mit MI ans Gerät senden.
Bei ca. 60% der Indexerstellung brichen beide Programme ab bzw. stüzen ab.
Alle anderen OSM Karten oder auch die Versionen von letzter Woche funktionieren noch so das ich ein Problem an meinem PC ausschließen kann.

Ui, welches Land. Ich hab eine neue mkgmap Version benutzt (city branch), welche eine bessere Stadt/Region Zuordnung machen sollte, und angeblich das mit Mapsource versenden Problem nicht mehr hat. Bin selber aber nur ganz begrenzt zum testen gekommen.
Ich habe jeweils Bayern geladen.

Ich hab grade einige Karten ausprobiert, wenn man die Karte komplett exportiert, dann geht es. Wenn man nur einzelne Kacheln exportiert, bricht es ab.
Ich werde mal warten ob bei mkgmap in 1-2 Tagen ein Fix kommt, und dann entweder mit der alten Version neurendern, oder mit einer gefixten.
Danke für die schnelle Rückinfo – dann bin ich erst mal beruhigt.
Habe auch nur versucht ein Teilimage von ca. 6 Kacheln meiner Region zu erstellen.
Wenn ich die Adresssuche auf meinem Edge 800 bemühe, z.B. für Graz (oder auch Wien) dann muss ich wissen in welchem Bezirk meine Straße ist, die ich gern finden würde. Da man diese Information wohl in den seltensten Fällen hat, wollte ich fragen, ob es möglich ist alle Straßen aller Bezirke einfach unter “Wien” oder “Graz” auffindbar zu machen?
Das ist derzeit leider noch eine Baustelle. Grade in AT funktioniert es noch nicht gut (obwohl in Wien die Adressen schon recht gut und korrekt eingetragen sind).
cgpsmapper hat funktioniert. Wahrscheinlich war zu wenig Hauptspeicher das Problem. Danke für die Hilfe!
Irgendwie hat es mit der 400 MB Höhenlinien Datei von Spanien nicht funktioniert. Ich habe sie herunterladen können und mit “create_mapsource_installationfiles_with_mkgmap.bat” habe ich dann die “install_openmtbmap_cani_srtm_7542.bat” erzeugt und auch ausgeführt. Die “install_openmtbmap_cani_srtm_7542.bat” hat gemeint, dass alles richtig installiert ist aber beim Aufruf von Mapsource gab es sofort einen Crash. Ich kann Mapsource nur starten, indem ich vorher die “uninstall_7542.bat” aufrufe.
Interessant ist, dass Mapsettoolkit behauptet alles richtig installiert waere. Aber da fiel mir auf das in Mapsettoolkit die Karte ohne Höhenlinien und die Karte mit Höhenlinien genau die gleiche Größe hat. Da ist wohl etwas faul, oder?
Installier die Höhenlinien separat (per .exe) wenns Probleme machen. Wahrscheinlich hast du zuwenig Arbeitsspeicher und der mdr.img Index ist kaputt. Alternativ die cgpsmapper Version – sprich create_mapsource_installationfiles.bat benutzen (die erzeugt keinen Adressindex). Oder veraltete mkgmap Version??
Ich benutze diese Karten seit ca. 2 Jahren auf meinem Garmin Legend HCx. Sie sind fantastisch und haben mir zig Stunden tolle Fahrraderlebnisse beschert. Vielen herzlichen Dank!
Eher zufällig habe ich jetzt gerade gemerkt, dass die Karten-Downloaddatei für Spanien viel zu klein ist (308 KB) und nur die Hauptstädte mit ihren POIs aber ohne alle Straßen und Wege enthält. Da scheint was schief gelaufen zu sein.
Eigentlich wollte ich die Karten für die Kanarischen Inseln und die sind eh separat, also da kein Problem, aber gibt es dafür auch Höhenlinien? Ich konnte nur Höhenlinien für Spanien finden.

1. Da waren die Ausgangsdaten von Geofabrik kaputt. Ich habs gerade nochmal angeworfen. Bezüglich Höhenlinien: Schau am Server direkt nach, da liegt eine 400MB Höhenliniendatei für Spanien, da sollten die Kanaren mit drauf sein. Muss die noch bei den Downloads verlinken.
Wie immer tolle Karte allerdings fehlen wie auch in der Velomap viele Seeen und Teiche
In andern OSM’s sind diese zu sehen.
Beispiel: Röhrensse Bayreuth N49 55.993 E11 34.380
Dieser See ist für mich ein eindeutiger Taggingfehler. Der See ist schon vorhanden in der Openmtbmap, wird aber vom leisure=park überblendet. Da sollte ein Multipolygon benutz werden. Natual=water muss ich unterhalb anzeigen, sonst gibt es Probleme mit zig Überschwemmungen. (Onlinekarten wie Mapnik haben da noch ein paar andere Berechnungen, und zeigen daher den See oberhalb des Parks an), bzw verzichten einige Karten evtl komplett drauf, leisure=park anzuzeigen.

Naja, dafür fehlen dann dort andere Sachen. Wie gesagt, das ganze ist ein Taggingfehler. Und keiner der für mich logische Präferenzen hat ob ich den Park oder den See darstellen soll. Geht nur eins von beiden was oben ist.
Herzlichen Dank für diese tolle Arbeit. Auch als absoluter Neuling in Sachen Outdoor Navigation ist es mir mit Deinen Tutorials in kurzer Zeit gelungen, die ersten Karten auf mein neues Dakota 20 zu installieren. Nun muß ich mich jedoch erst noch tiefer in die Materie einarbeiten, außerdem steht noch ein ein Dankeschön für Deine super Arbeit an!

…. ich wohne im Grenzgebiet. Habe mir DE und BE geladen. und möchte nun eine grenzüberschreitende Strecke erzeugen. Kann mir jemand helfen? Ich bekomme es nicht hin zwei Karten gleichzeitig zu bearbeiten.

Bin vor kurzem vom Windows auf Mac umgestiegen und habe noch viel zu lernen. Das mit den Höhenlinien habe ich noch nicht begriffen. Aber die Karten finde ich klasse.

die karten sind echt klasse … nuuuur^^ wenn ich bei der nrw karte route klappt das bei meinen heimrunden super. bei der deutschland karte versagt das autorouting allerdings irgentwie. wendet ohne ersichtlichen grund und fährt umwege beim setzen von viapunkten. mach ich da was falsch oder sind die karten unterschiedlich?
Sollte eigentlich nicht sein. Kann evtl mit Kachelgrenzen zu tun haben (wenn identisches Datum). Wenn unterschiedliches Datum, kann es an Fehlern in OSM Daten liegen..

you seem to have edited the batch and broke this part – c’est assez simple – user error
the problem is in the batch on line 134, there an ampersand (&) is used. this is interpreted by the command shell.

Kann jemand helfen ? Komme nicht weiter , habe die mtbger.exe runtergeladen und auch inst. neuer oder kamm aber was muss ich dann tun ?

einfach nochmal installieren zum updaten. Hab es auf der englischen Seite ergänzt (weil es nur dort fehlte).
Die Germany-Maps scheinen defekt zu sein. Nach 2maligem Download bekomme ich immer noch einen NSIS Error: Incomplete download and damaged media. Oder mach ich was falsch? Die Alps-Maps funktionieren bei mir einwandfrei.

Sehr komisch, da warte ich erstmal auf andere Meldungen. Mehr und mehr Provider scheinen den Deutschland download zu cachen, und dann bringt ein zweiter Download nichts da beim Provider der kaputte Cache liegt.
Hi, upon installing maps, i've noticed that both maps 'Bosnia and Herzegovina' and 'Kosovo' are created with the same MapID number (6532), as seen in their installation files. So, i selected 6531 for Bosnia instead. Everything seemed to work out fine in the end, though. Sorry, if posts already exist on this matter, but it would be nice to make them searchable in the future.

Super Seite, super Karten, habe nur leider einen Fehler entdeckt und zwar bei der Karte von Luxemburg, die ist leider unkomplett, und zwar ist Sie unten abgeschnitten und es fehlt ein Teil im Süden des Landes. (unterhalb von "Dudelange") Ist da in absegbarer Zeit ein Update vorgesehen?

Ich habe da mehrere Probleme:
Wenn ich Openmtbmaps von Bayern installiere und mein Fahrradroten Fünfflüsseweg und fränk. Scheizrunde aufrufe, geht es in Ordnung. Wenn ich karnischen Weg (Alps und Austria 46°N) einrichte, verschwindet die Bayenkarte und umgekehrt. Ich habe es versucht, dass ich einen Teil auf meinen Garmin Oregon 450 gebe den anderen Teil auf die Microcard. aber das Problem blieb. Auch bei den Alps, zeigt es nur bis 48°39' an, ab da Basicmap.
Ich gönne Euch gerne ein Bier, aber nicht über Paypal, die mag ich als ebayler nicht leiden. Gib mir lieber Euer Iban und Bic bekannt.

Sind die Karten mit Basecamp/Mapsource gleichzeitig ans GPS gesendet?

ich bekomm's nicht geregelt. Eine 2009er Karte hab ich damals super auf mein GPSmap60csx geschwurbelt. Jetzt schaff' ich's nicht mal eine Karte runterzuladen. Wenn ich auf den Link klicke bekomme ich eine 4Kb exe Datei, mit der ich nix anfangen kann. Egal welche Karte, sie hat immer 4Kb ich kann sie weder öffnen noch entpacken noch sonst was machen mit jedweder Software, die angepriesen wird. Auf dem FTP Server sind die Dinger natürlich viel grösser.
Ich hab' mich durch alle FAQs und Tutorials wieder und wieder durchgequält, aber ich finde nichts darüber. Ich nutze MacOSX. Muss ich die Karten mit einem Windows Rechner herunterladen?

I love this Openmtbmap:-) . Loading Asia I find no contourlines. Om Opnestreetmap, looking on Bali in mode Base Layer-Cycle Map it looks almost in 3D. Where to get those contourlines? Thanks, Vagn
do them yourselves from srtm data. I will not create contourlines outside of Europe.
Ich wollte mir eben die Frankreich Karte runterladen und installieren. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, dass das File nur 3MB groß ist und nach der Installation nur die Ortschaften anzeigt. Habe ich etwas falsch gemacht oder ist da ein Fehler in der Datei?
Verwende sonst hauptsächlich die Österreich Karte, und bin damit sehr zufrieden.
