Hallo Felix,

Marcel

There is no way to update only what is updated. Everything must be updated - because it's a full recompilation - Garmin's .img format doesn't allow it different (too many indexes completely rewritten, and the full structure not designed for incremental updates. Therefore rsync is no option. You just need to make sure, that the mtbeurope.7z and mtbeurope.exe is of the same date.
Besides Wine, you could just unpack both files (lzma compression), and use Qlankdarte GT instead.

As for Wine, I think the installers should run fine. Installing Mapsource/Basecamp under Wine is more tricky I think... (NSIS is open source, so the installers should be handled correctly by Wine as NSIS anyhow only has few options).

I answered it already... as only either or is possible, I will stick to latin1. It's a real bummer that Garmin supports only one charset per map.

Hello extremecarver,

Much as I admire all the good work you are doing in making available your excellent maps for GPS use, I have had frustrating problems trying to download & install your mbteurope map, mainly because of the inadequacies of Windows, an OS that I detest and use as little as possible.

What I would like to know is if someone has experience of using Wine under Linux to run your installers. If this is possible I would prefer to do it this way since I have spent an annoying afternoon trying three times to download your big files only to discover that Windows refuses to put them on a big-capacity USB stick in the hope that I can re-use the installation under Linux, or that the installer blocks half-way through with the message advising a new download - another hour's wait.

Wouldn't it be easier to have a system of updating the *.img files individually by using a system like rsync that just compares the source with the downloaded files and only downloads those that are newer? Surely this would put less strain on your file server instead of having subscribers download 4GB+ files every time they want an update.

I have been using your individual country files up to now that are quicker to download and install, but my upcoming trips are in the Alps & Pyrenees where I have to keep switching maps each time I move across a border. Perhaps a set of mountain region files would be easier to manage rather than separate country ones?

Thanks, anyway, for any suggestions you or other Linux users might have.
