Garmin PNAs Die Karten sind mit so gut wie allen Garmin Geraeten mit Farbdisplay kompatibel (z.Bsp Legend/Vista HCx and Cx, 60/76CSx, Oregon, Colorado,Edge 705, Nuvi, Streetmap, Zumo). Ausnahmen sind aeltere PNA mit Farbdisplay ohne Typfilesupport (einige Ique, einige Zumo?)
Garmin Mapsource (Windows PC/Wine/) Mapsource kompatibel – Ich empfehle Mapsource 6.13.6 (fuer Windows Vista und Windows 7) bzw 6.13.7 fuer Windows XP zu benutzen. Die Kartendarstellung unter Mapsource >=6.14.1 von Garmin ist verzerrt (dies betrifft alle Karten, auch jene von Garmin wie City Navigator), dazu ist es superlangsam und resourcenhungrig. Karten fuer Basecamp adaptieren – Basecamp zeigt nur Karten mit DEM an. Da es nicht bekannt ist, wie man ein DEM fuer Garmin GPS / Mapsource aufbereitet zeigt Basecamp die Openmtbmap (oder andere "freie" Karten) nicht an. Man kann den Karten jedoch ein leeres DEM hinzufuegen. Hierzu oeffnet man alle Kartenkacheln einer openmtbmap Karte (also alle *.img deren Name aus 8 Ziffern besteht) in gmaptool (einfach per Drag n’ Drop im "Files" Fenster hinzufuegen), klickt auf den "Split" Tab. und aktiviert "add empty DEM". Neuen Ordner angeben und gmaptool schreibt die Karten neu mit leerem DEM. Dann die alten Karten ersetzen. Nun koennen die Karten in Basecamp geoffnet werden, bzw Mac OSx User sie konvertieren.
Qlandkarte GT (seit Version 0.13) www.qlandkarte.org – kein Autorouting. Ist in vielen Linux Distributionen per Packetmanager zu installieren, bzw einfachst kompilierbar. Fuer Windows gibt es einen Installer. Seit Version 0.15.1 laeuft Qlandkarte GT auch auf Windows Vista / 7.
PDA, Smartphone (Windows CE oder ME) Kompatibel mit Garmin Mobile XT (sollte auf allen Windows Smartphones laufen). Mit Garmin Mobile XT ist auch Autorouting moeglich. Fuer die reine Kartenanzeige kann auch Glopus oder Qlandkarte M benutzt werden.
Inkompatibel mit: Iphone, IQue 3600 (und andere IQue?), alte Garmin handhelds ohne Farbdisplay und/oder (micro)SD Kartenslot; jedem anderen Programm oder PNA wleches keine .TYP-files unterstuetzt (wie TTQV, Compegps,….).
Unterstuetz openmtbmap - fuer noch bessere Karten.
Just to confirm I managed to get a map loaded on Garmin Mobile XT runnining on My Nokia N95 8gb (Symbian OS v9.2, S60 3rd Edition)
Need to spend more time testing, but everything seems good so far
Under “Incompatibilities” you state “old Garmin handhelds without color screen and (micro)SD card”.
I have an original mono screen eTrex Vista, which has only internal memory (24MB ?). I uploaded to it a couple of sections of the GB map, without routing data. I have only panned and zoomed the map a bit as a quick test, but your maps seem to work with it just fine.
Well, you are not able to see the waytypes properly. Of course the map runs fine, but what appears to be a highway will be displayed as path and so on. So in effect it would take a long time getting used to it. Of course it’s fine to use Mapsource, upload routes and tracks, but the ways will be very difficult to distinguish, and some not shown at all I expect.
I suppose it depends on what you mean by ‘properly’. There seem to be a good variety of waytypes showing up, clearly distinguishable. Compared to the previous complete absence of anything other han public highways, this is MUCH better. Is there any way I can submit some screenshots ? (I do know how to capture the image.)
Maybe perfomance on older units has recently been improved as a side-effect of other changes ?

Thank you for this project. I tried it on Mapsource for windows and it worked fin. I would like to use it on my Mac (Macsource for Mac), but i don't know to install. I tried to use mapconvert (windows program to convert maps for mac) but i doesn't finds the installed maps. Any idea?
